Biographie

Anne Sinclair est née en 1948, diplômée de Sciences Po et Maîtrise de Droit à Paris X.

Après avoir commencé comme journaliste à la radio (Europe 1), Anne Sinclair est devenue une des femmes de télévision les plus connues en France et en Europe.

Elle a créé et maintenu avec le même succès pendant plus de 13 ans une des émissions les plus renommées, « 7 sur 7 », sur la plus grande chaine française, TF1.

Chaque dimanche entre 19h et 20h, elle a reçu tout ce que le monde politique français compte de plus prestigieux, des hôtes étrangers de premier plan, et des intellectuels venus de toute la planète. Plus de 500 émissions en ont fait l'une des Françaises les plus célèbres.

Dans ce programme, ont été reçus plusieurs fois François Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, Bill ou Hillary Clinton ; Madonna, Sharon Stone, Paul McCartney ou Mère Teresa ; le secrétaire géneral des Nations-Unies, le Président russe Gorbatchev, le Prince Charles, le roi du Maroc ou le chancelier Helmut Kohl.

Elle a fait de ce rendez-vous en direct du dimanche soir, un lieu de réflexion sur la société mais aussi d'actualité la plus chaude réunissant de 10 à 12 millions de télespectateurs, ce qui est un record pour un programme politique, pour lequel, Anne Sinclair a reçu quatre « 7 d'or ».

En 1997 quand son mari, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, est nommé Ministre de l'Economie et des Finances du gouvernement français, elle abandonne ce lieu d'influence pour ne pas créer de conflit d'intérêt.

Elle fonde et dirige alors pendant 4 ans la filiale Internet de la chaine de télévision où elle travaillait, e-tf1, et les sites tf1.fr ou lci.fr.

Depuis, elle fut journaliste à la radio, RTL, puis France Inter pendant 3 ans et a écrit plusieurs livres politiques à gros succès.

Depuis novembre 2007, elle vit à Washington avec son mari, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, qui a été élu il y a un an Directeur Général du Fonds Monétaire International.

Elle collabore actuellement à Canal Plus, et au Journal du Dimanche, et elle travaille à un nouveau livre sur les Etats-Unis.

Famous French television interviewer and radio journalist, Anne Sinclair currently works as a freelance journalist for the French TV channel Canal +, where she regularly appears to comment on American politics. She also covered the 2008 American Presidential campaign for the leading French Sunday paper, Le Journal du Dimanche.

Anne Sinclair started her career as a radio journalist and gained national prominence during her years as a broadcast interviewer and television producer.

In 1984, she created and hosted “7/7”, a weekly Sunday evening broadcast news and political show, on TF1, with one of the largest audiences in France. She became one of the most reknowned French journalists, and conducted more than 500 interviews over the course of her show’s thirteen year run. Anne Sinclair’s program has often been compared to Larry King Live or Charlie Rose.

Every Sunday at 7 pm, Anne Sinclair hosted a one hour interview with the most famous French and international personalities.

She interviewed, one or several times, French Presidents François Mitterrand, Nicolas Sarkozy as well as President Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev, and many other heads of state such as Shimon Peres in Jerusalem, Felipe Gonzales in Madrid and German Chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schroder.

Anne Sinclair also interviewed First Lady Hillary R. Clinton in Washington, the UN Secretary General in New-York during the First Gulf War, Prince Charles in London and the King of Morocco in Rabat.

Primarly focused on politics, her show has also included celebrities such as Madonna, Sharon Stone, Paul McCartney, Woody Allen, George Soros, Bill Gates, Daniel Barenboim or Mother Teresa. She has conducted interviews with French cultural figures, such as Johnny Hallyday, Alain Delon, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Bernard-Henri Levy or Elie Wiesel.

Her show was a critical success and became the top rated political program, with 10 to 12 millions of viewers weekly – a record of audience for a political program in Europe. Anne Sinclair won four Sept dOr, the French equivalent of the Emmy Awards.

In 1997, she chose to step down to avoid any conflict of interest, when her husband, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, became French Finance Minister. She then created the Internet subsidiary company for her former employer TF1 and ran it for four years before returning to journalism. In 2003, she launched a cultural radio program on France Inter, the French equivalent of NPR. She has also published three bestsellers on political issues.

Born in New-York, in 1948, Anne Sinclair graduated in politics from Sciences-Po Paris (Paris Institute for Political Studies) and in law from the University of Paris. She lives in Washington D.C. with her husband, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund since November 2007. In October 2008, she launched her blog, annesinclair.fr, which comments daily on American and international political news, and has become one of the top twelve political French blogs. She is also working on her latest book about American political life.
